HastingsStAnneChambersRdExtNW.jpgA small church in outer Hastings, it was built as a daughter church of St Leonard, Hollington (ESRO Par 534) between 1950 and 1965.  The foundation stone is dated 1956 and the work was clearly done in stages.  The architects were J L Denman and Son (BAL/MSS 41218) and is typical of their work at this time.  Built of brick and flint, tall side-windows rise into the roof in dormers and the east and west sides of the west tower are bowed outwards.  It has what would be a low pyramid spire, if two sides were not bowed out because of the plan of the tower beneath.  The nave is now used by social services, but the modest chancel, with a single east window and plain wooden fittings, is little altered.

My thanks to Nick Wiseman for these two photographs.
